Preparing the Dish Box
Though the dish packs have added a layer of protection in form of double corrugated cardboard layers, packing the dishes in right way is equally important. One of the most important tips in the best way to pack dishes for shipping is to use ample amount of packing paper though you are not advised to overdo as it will reduce the number of dishes that can be packed in a dish box. You are also advised to fill the empty spaces in the dish box with crumpled paper so the contents of the box do not move.
The first step in packing the dishes is getting the dish box ready before you place dishes inside it. Put a thick layer of packing paper or crumpled paper inside the dish box. It will provide the dishes a cushion that will protect them from shocks and jerks. When you have placed the crockery and dishes in the cartons, add some crumpled paper on the top as well. Also, make sure there are no empty spaces in the dish pack. If you find any empty spaces after packing delicate items, put some crumpled paper to fill the empty space.
Packing the bowls and dishes
You need to wrap each dish individually in a piece of packing paper. Keep the dish in one corner of packing paper and wrap the paper diagonally around the dish. Tuck the overlapping ends of packing paper as you wrap the dish. After the dish is completely wrapped in the paper, keep it vertically in the dish box the way you keep them in a dishwasher. Wrap other dishes in the same manner and place them in a row in dish box. You need to always keep the dishes and bowls on their sides in the box and never keep them flat in the dish box. Delicate items like crockery and glasses need to be wrapped completely and placed in upright position or standing up in the dish box.
When packing bowls with lid, make sure you pack them separately wrapped in a double piece of packing paper. You will need to first wrap the lid in packing paper and after that wrap your bowl. Place the lid in inverted position over the bowl. If you are packing crockery items of similar size in one dish box, don’t forget to add a piece of packing paper or newspaper sheet between two plates or bowls.
Packing other delicate items
You can pack other delicate items in the same way. if you are using one dish box for multiple delicate items, make sure you place the bulkier items at the bottom of the box and lighter ones at the top. If you are packing delicate items like a pitcher, wrap the handle with extra sheets of newspaper sheets or packing paper and secure it with packing tape. Wrap the remaining pitcher with two layers of newspaper or packing paper.
Closing the dish box
Once you are done with filling the dish box to its full capacity, close the box, lift it up and shake it. If you feel the content inside moves, you need to put in the more crushed paper to fill in empty spaces inside.
Labeling the dish box
Secure the dish box by packing tape and label the box on four sides. You can write “Fragile-Dishes inside” and make an arrow pointing upwards to ensure the person lifting and carrying the dish box around knows the content and takes adequate care while handling the box.
